Introduction to the Faculty Advising and the Drahmann Center

The Drahmann Center has as one of its goals the support and training of faculty advisors. Faculty are encouraged to call the Drahmann Center to ask advising questions or for clarifications on university policy as regards student academics.

University advisors are also available to meet with faculty for training on advising generally and university core, or to discuss particular advising issues. Email Diana Morlang dmorlang@scu.edu to set up an appointment.

The Drahmann Center offers workshops for faculty advisors who are new to advising or wish to review general advising topics. Generally, workshops are offered in spring quarter prior to the Mandatory May Advising period. A Drahmann advisor can also meet with department faculty or attend department meetings to discuss advising.

Specialized Advising Resources

In addition to general advising, pre-health career and pre-law advising resources are also available.

Pre-health Career advising: Professor Brian McNelis leads the pre-health advising on campus. Advisors hold regular pre-health advising office hours for students in the Drahmann Center. Students can make appointments with a pre-health advisor on the Drahmann Center website. Pre-Health Advising

Pre-law advising: The Pre-Law Advisors advise students interested in pursuing law school. Professor Mike Dana heads the pre-law advising program on campus. Pre-Law Advising

Advising Expectations and Responsibilities

Faculty are assigned to advise students through their department and by the Drahmann Center.
A student’s individual faculty advisor is his or her primary resource for information and assistance on academic policy, curricular planning, and program choice.

Students may also make appointments with a University Advisor in the Drahmann Center for supplemental assistance, especially in regard to the exceptions to university policy.
